Online Beat Selling: The Future of The Music Industry – LTTB Interview

My friends know what I do and usually when they see like a recognisable name, if they see like a phone number of someone they know on my phone, they’ll be like oh, Ok – you know this person? OK. So, they’re usually very amused by how far I am in this game. My biggest achievement so far is out of the thousands of producers online to be able to be among the top one percent who are actually recognised and have really solid fanbase behind them and one who people in the industry listen to his beats. I like this guy. One of the incentives and one of the fulfillments is knowing that you’re getting paid right for the work you’re doing. So before I was selling beats online I was just a regular student, I study something far away from music.

I study economics and politics at the University of Manchester. I moved to the UK in 2014 from Nigeria. Nigeria loves music, music is one of the very thriving industries in the country, much of it is music that you dance to and it’s really going, going around the world now. The music I produce is like the current sound in wave of island influenced music. Afro influenced music, but I always try to make the music sound with my own flavour which is more of mainstream pop sounds or hip-hop sounds that you would hear on American radio or UK radio. Airbit really changed the game, it allowed me to reach out to a lot of different artists whether upcoming or in the industry, this has bridged the gap really. I don’t need to be physically where artists are, for me to be able to still make it in this industry. There’ve been many success stories of producers who didn’t even know that a certain artist bought a beat from them and was eventually turned it into a hit. So I think selling beats online has now given producers the sense of feeling that I could actually make it, it’s like a job for me so I don’t need to go work outside and get a boss or whatever.

I’m my own boss and I’m doing my thing and it’s like employment to me, you don’t really have to be there when transactions take place, so many times I would be like I would be in the library and I would just check my phone and, one transaction has just gone through and I don’t need to send anything, I don’t need to say anything and everything just, just works perfectly without any intervention on my part. So, for me I would say one thing that every producer should have is a website with a beats selling platform in it, preferably Airbit. And it’s just gonna change how, how customers view you, it worked for me and ever since then it’s just been, been smooth sailing for me.

I started working with another producer, shout out to Mantra, and you know we really had a nice chemistry, we vibe with each other really well, and he introduced me to his manager, he, and his manager liked what I did and everything just came about from there. 

So, selling beats online has a role to play in that I wouldn’t have really linked up with Mantra, if I wasn’t selling beats online. So, I’m going to L.A. pretty soon, and I’m really excited about it and this was something that before I started selling beats online, I was always dreaming about doing – going to L.A. for, you know to see the city and also to work with really great artists and I’m going soon, and I have the opportunity thanks to selling beats online.

Airbit has been able to make twenty million dollars for producers, I think this in the next two years can be easily forty million. I think it’s going to grow tremendously and I think industry producers would not look down on online producers anymore because we will now be dictating how the sound of music is. We’re gonna be introducing artists into the, into the game through our sound, and we’re gonna determine a whole lot in the industry. So, I think in the next 5 years, the balance between industry production, and online production would probably getting closer to 50/50 in terms of respect and in terms of how much work is getting recognised from us.
