Hip Hop

Hip Hop has evolved into a whole culture, as opposed to just a music genre.

It is said to have emerged in the South Bronx in New York City during the late 1970s and was developed from neighborhood block parties.

Hip Hop music became more mainstream in the late 80s, with the commercial success of Beastie Boys, The Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and more.

Hip Hop takes from - and lends to - other genres such as Trap, RnB, Pop.

Although many Hip Hop instrumentals or beats are made from scratch, Hip Hop is known for its sampling culture. This is effectively reusing old sounds, whether it’s an entire audio segment, a voice from an old record, or a tiny audio segment chopped up so small you can’t tell what it’s from. Hip Hop producers are able to take these sounds and rework them into a new record.
