Trap

Trap began in the early 90’s and grew throughout 00’s. Lex Luger is widely credited as popularising the genre in 2010-2011. Other names credited are Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, Three 6 Mafia, Manny Fresh & Zaytoven.

Trap music is defined largely by its bleak and gritty content. Themes include "trap" lifestyle, street life, poverty, violence… you get the picture.

Trap music is also known for: multi-layered, hard-lined synthesizers, crisp, grimy snares, deep 808s, and double & triple-time hi-hats. Percussion sounds usually originate from the Roland TR-808 Drum Machine. More characteristics of Trap include cinematic & symphonic use of string, brass, woodwind, and keyboard instruments. These all combine to create an overall dark, grim atmosphere.

Trap is also known for being integrated into EDM (EDM Trap).

Trap can be classified simply as a combination of any or all of the following: Hip Hop, Dubstep, Dub, Dance & EDM.
