At 7 years of age, I arrived enthusiastically, fearful, and overwhelmed in the United States. It was the first time I met my family, I didn’t know the language, I had no friends, and didn’t understand the culture.

Then I heard “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” by Nas and everything changed. His relaxed voice, effortless delivery, and vivid description of his struggle resonated with this foreigner adjusting to this new land. It felt as if he understood me, accepted me, and allowed me to enter his realm. Through hip hop, my english flourished, friendships forged through the love of the music, and I found my identity.
